Hosted by AIANY/Center for Architecture/Architecture for Justice, Escaping Time was pleased to be a part of a panel discussion about how space is used by individuals who are incarcerated in order to create a sense of place. The artists shared their unique ideas and experiences as we continue to move toward a future without prisons. Moderator Shaun Leonardo and the artists wove together a dialogue that laid bare the impact of being removed from society, confined to spaces meant to punish and dehumanize.

As we envision spaces where restorative and transformative justice can grow and thrive, we challenge those involved in designing and building courts, jails, prisons, and other places of confinement to push for, and bring to reality, systemic change.
