Diversity, equity, and Inclusion Talk

@ The Muse, NYC

November 2019

Escaping Time was invited to speak about Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at The Muse, a company that assists people in finding employment. During the talk, we made it a point to emphasize that while DE&I often focuses on representation of race, gender, and class, often lost in the conversation are the people who have been through the criminal justice system and lack access to opportunties. Whether it is education, housing, or employment, people who have been through the criminal justice system have to deal with the gatekeepers deciding who gets an opportunity. Those who determine who gets into a school, apartment, or job impact a person’s ability to successfully reintegrate into society, and those who have that authority must become aware of implicit bias and more open to providing opportunities to those who have been marginalized.
